Tails Around Town Guidelines
The Panhandle Humane Society’s Tails Around Town program is designed as an interactive day-long enrichment adventure that helps keep shelter animals happy and healthy physically, mentally, and socially while allowing for extra exposure to the public.
The Panhandle Humane Society will provide any necessary supplies and equipment needed for the day, such as a treat pouch, poop bags, leash, collar, bowl for water, water, treats, kennel for transport if needed. You will also be provided with background information about your doggy companion.
To help ensure a fun and safe time, we have a few guidelines for your Tails Around Town adventure:
- Dogs available for this program will have signs identifying them as Tails Around Town Candidates listed on their kennel cards in our adoption book.
- The dog must be handled by the adult who signed the Agreement and Release waiver.
- You are responsible for transporting the dog to and from the shelter in your vehicle. However, a kennel and blankets will be provided if you desire.
- Dogs can leave the shelter as early as 9:00 am and must be returned to PHS the same day by 3:30 pm. Walk-ins are welcome during 1:00 to 4:00 pm hours. If you would like to start earlier in the morning, arrangements must be made the day before.
- Dogs must remain on leash at all times (a leash will be provided).
- Dogs must wear their “Adopt Me” vest.
- If the dog shows any signs of illness or stress (examples are sneezing, coughing, excessive drooling, or other noticeable anxious behavior), please bring it back to the shelter right away.
- If you have any questions or concerns during the day, please call our cell phone at 308-631-4765 if you chose an early morning adventure or 308-635-0922 during business hours.
- You may not imply a promise of adoption to interested people while in the community. Instead, please encourage interested parties to visit the shelter for a formal adoption counseling and meet and greet.
- Volunteering for Tails Around Town does not replace our adoption process or guarantee adoption. Policies and procedures will be followed if you want to adopt the dog.
- Most importantly, have fun! This is a great thing you are doing for this dog!
